From our neighbors to the North in Vancouver, British Columbia comes the alt-pop stylings of B E N J I I, who has released his debut solo single today titled "California". You may remember Benji from his time with the alt-rock outfit Hawking, whom I had the pleasure of seeing in concert 4 years ago at TT the Bear's alongside Today Junior where their pulsating prog-rock rhythms really had an effect on me and countless others that evening. Since departing Hawking to start out on his own, Benji has taken some time off to form a musical identity that is all is own, and witness the result: Harmonic bliss coupled with dream-like melodies conjured upon a musical precision that transports listeners into Benji's ever expanding musical thought process that is equal parts mesmerizing and beautiful. I was literally stunned when I first heard this track, and it's quite apparent that Benji has stumbled across something very special. He has also found his true calling and purpose in life through the power of music, and under his own name and identity to boot which will really make him stand out immensely from the pack. A stunning talent that needs to be experienced right now!
